Episode 3:
The Inside Out Approach

Why did Jesus’ earthly ministry take place 2,000 years ago? Wouldn’t His teachings have spread more readily in the age of social media? Wouldn’t Jesus’s miracles have been more visible in the age of viral video? As J. Warner Wallace explains in Episode 3, Christ’s earthly ministry began at an incredibly strategic time in world history, at the crossroads of language, writing, and commerce. God knew what He was doing!

Step 1: Watch Episode 3

Step 2:
Read and Meditate on Scripture

But when the fullness of the time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons and daughters.

(Galatians 4:4-5)

Step 3:
Questions For Discussion

  1. Infrastructure. Religious tolerance. How did these hallmarks of the Roman Empire help advance the Gospel? Can you think of some other historical and cultural factors that contributed to the spread of the Good News?

  2. Would the life and testimony of Jesus have made a greater impact if He had come to earth in the digital age? Why or why not?

  3. Bibles in numerous translations. Commentaries. Devotionals. Daily reading apps. Think about all the Christian growth resources you have available and compare and contrast that with the early Church.

Step 4:
Take Time in Prayer

Father,
Thank you that in your perfect timing, Jesus walked the earth and revealed Your glory, and that even without phones, TV, or the internet, the Church was firmly established. Help us be grateful for all the tools at our disposal in the 21st century to foster our own spiritual growth and to share the Good News with others.
Amen.
