Episode 4:
Tech, Devices, and Your Strong-Willed Child

Technology use is difficult to navigate, especially with a strong-willed child. In this fourth episode, Cynthia Tobias talks about how to barter for tech use with your child, as well as how to set firm lines and consequences.

Watch the video below to get started. Then, check out the Scripture verse, discussion questions, prayer, and additional resources.

Step 1: Watch Episode 4

Step 2:
Read and Meditate on Scripture

“For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant,
but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”

(Hebrews 12:11 ESV)

Step 3:
Questions For Discussion

  1. What do you see as a reasonable amount of screen time? What amount of screen time does your child usually want?

  2. Cynthia Tobias says that you can “trade” certain activities for screen time. How could you do that in your home?

  3. How firm are you with your boundaries, and how often do you follow through on promised consequences? Why is it important to be firm on these with a strong-willed child?

Step 4:
Take Time in Prayer

God,
You give us limits because You know what’s best for us.
You also discipline us when we surpass those limits because You love us.
Help me show love in this way to my child.
Guide me as I set limits, and give me the strength to remain firm in the consequences I give, so my child can grow up well.
In Jesus’ name I pray,
Amen.
