GCM came to Durban to meet with church leaders in May, 2011. Pastor Songe Chibambo, of African Enterprise, challenged GCM when he said:
“I only wish you had come earlier! The mega city campaign is the missing link in how we can reach our cities. The timing of this visit is divine. No government program can solve the social problems we face today. Only the Gospel of Jesus Christ can bring change to our cities.”
As the first African city to receive Power to Change, Durban has an opportunity to birth this concept on our continent.
This provides a unique chance for the body of Christ to be unified in prayer and action to win souls in the city, irrespective of denomination, geographic location or culture. Close collaboration & unity among the supporting churches, ministries & media partners are essential to a successful campaign.

The heart of this campaign is powerful personal testimonies of local people, gathered in the lead‐up to the campaign itself. This forms the nucleus & the content of the campaign. The best transformation stories collected from local churches are collated into a free book (in English and Zulu), which the public can request by calling a toll‐free number. Churches will mobilise hundreds of volunteers to set up a call centre that will operate for 30 days, 24 hours a day, to counsel people who call in & receive campaign book orders for the couriers to personally deliver to those who request a book.
Media such as outdoor networks (billboards, adverts on taxis and buses, and posters), radio and television documented testimonials, print media etc. will all be used to propagate one message for 30 days, “God gives you the Power to Change!”
A victory service will be held to share the journeys and successes of the campaign. Long after the excitement of the media blitz, the seeds sown during the 30‐day media campaign will continue to reap a bountiful harvest and Durban will truly be changed!
