Focus on the family Africa, in partnership with Children’s Hope Chest & Focus on the Family USA formed an initiative to find long term sustainable solutions to the challenge of orphans and vulnerable children in Southern Africa. We identified Orphan care points with limited resources in Southern Africa to support, in order that they become more effective in caring for orphans and vulnerable children.
How We Do It: At the moment we have identified 7 care points in KZN. We currently have 1097 orphans and vulnerable children which we work with. We plan to expand to other areas at a later stage once these are fully functional. By engaging Care Point managers we are able to identify the real needs of the orphans and are then able to provide a holistic support involves: educational, emotional, physical, environment and spiritual care to orphans and vulnerable children. Children’s Hope Chest (CHC) is our programme partner organization based in the USA, whose mission is to raise funds for orphans globally and in Africa. Through its sponsors, CHC enables Focus Africa to provide a holistic approach to sponsorship for each child, taking them from where they are at up until the age where they are ready to make a life for themselves. Furthermore we engage the services of the Disciplers, who are very instrumental in the programme implementation, as they directly care and provide for emotional and spiritual needs of the children. Desciplers ensure accountability and communication between us and the Care point by reporting on the results of the discipleship programme at the Care Point as well as on the individual success of each child. At Focus we have a number of resources that are beneficial to the success of any family and we see our Care point in the light of this. Two of those programmes are No Apologies (NA) and Parenting with Assurance programme in the schools surrounding the areas where our Care Points are situated. The results have been tremendous and both orphans and their Care Givers benefit from these programmes.
