Community Description

Maskey Health Service is located in the biggest township in the province of Kwazulu Natal. The youth in this community face the difficulties of being unemployed, especially post high school. Most of the parents or guardians in this community do have secondary schooling. Umlazi is located in an urban area, hence most families have houses that are in good condition. Child abuse within families in this community is high.

Challenges/Needs

The building they are currently using they rent iand live in fear of not affording to keep up with the rent. Their wish is to have their own space to work on. Most of the children are psychologically impacted as their parents died of HIV/AIDS. The children in this community need to be taught life skills so they are able to survive in this type of environment.
We wish to be able to provide healthy nutrition and well balanced meals at least twice a day, 5 days a week and currently we are not achieving this.

Contributions

Currently Children’s Hope Chest has not been able to raise a sponsoring church/community to help us achieve the development plan that we have in place for Maskey health services. In the meantime Focus on the Family continues to provide Maskey health services with food for one meal per week for each child and caregiver. We have provided school uniforms and other clothing as support has allowed. We also continue with discipleship classes and No Apologies training (No Apologies is a character based programme that promotes sexual abstinence among young people). Any contribution to help us increase the level of activity and support will be greatly appreciated.
