Communications Coordinator

Focus on The Family Africa is a Christian non-profit organization with the goal of Helping Families Thrive. We value excellence, integrity and a caring touch as we provide resources, broadcasts, seminars, programmes, counselling and a range of services to families in Africa.

We are currently looking for a full-time Communications Coordinator to be based at our office in Hillcrest, Durban. Reporting to the Communications Director, the successful candidate must be a graduate in the field of communications, media or marketing with at least 5 year’s working experience in a marketing or project management role.

The position requires a confident communicator, and the ideal candidate must possess the following skills and strengths:

  • Highly organized with a meticulous nature
  • Positive approach to new projects
  • Deadline driven with great time management skills
  • A good grasp of Microsoft Office Suite – with a proven ability to produce excellent presentations and spreadsheets. Words like pivot tables, freeze panes, cropped images, format and cell merges should be easily understood!
  • Social media expert with an online presence
  • Experience on a CRM software like Pastel/ Sage advantageous
  • Excellent writing skills (English). A portfolio of articles that have been published (print or digital) advantageous

We are passionate about our mission and the Communications Coordinator will be involved in several tasks that will assist in taking the organization forward with excellence. The key responsibilities for this role will be to:

  • Assist the Communications Director fulfil the various day-to-day tasks that is required for the Communications area.
  • Assist with administrative tasks relating to Broadcast, Marketing, Resources and Operations as requested by the Communications Director.
  • Maintain and organize company media, marketing and contact databases as instructed by the Communications Director.
  • Segment mailing lists for mailing campaigns where necessary. 
  • Conduct market research using Social Media tools.
  • Work with design consultant on ministry-wide campaigns.
  • Upload content to website and social media platforms where necessary.
  • Work closely with sound technician and oversee audio/ video editing projects
  • Update and manage online forms, surveys etc. for the Book Store.
  • Attend external events and assist with setup, equipment, contracts, and promotions. 
  • Cold call where necessary for purposes of increasing marketing/ broadcast footprint.
  • Be willing to tackle tasks and duties as assigned by the Director – which may not fall under your usual scope of work.
  • Be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintaining a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people.
  • Demonstrate behavior aligned with Focus on the Family Africa core values, which can be found in the Employee Handbook.
