Episode 2:
The Investigation of Jesus

Are the accounts of Jesus’ life reliable? As J. Warner Wallace explains in Episode 2 of “The Proof You Need to Believe in Jesus Christ,” the answer is a resounding YES. The New Testament is full to overflowing with verifiable historical and cultural details that speak to the truth of Jesus’ earthly ministry. The Gospel writers, in particular, made every effort to include key information that demonstrates the veracity and reliability of their testimony about Christ. An honest and thorough investigation into the claims of Scripture can only lead to one conclusion.

Step 1: Watch Episode 2

Step 2:
Read and Meditate on Scripture

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us,
just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us,
it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past,
to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus,
that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.

(Luke 1:1-4)

Step 3:
Questions For Discussion

  1. Can you think of specific details or stories from the Gospels that speak to the history and culture of Jesus’ time on earth?

  2. Warner Wallace talks about the “fuse and fallout” method of investigation. How does this apply to the stories about Christ in the New Testament?

  3. When it comes to Scripture, younger generations are more concerned with answering the “why?” questions than the “what?” questions. What are your thoughts on this?

Step 4:
Take Time in Prayer

LORD God,
Thank you that Jesus spent time on earth teaching, ministering, and living “among us” (John 1:14).
May an understanding of Jesus’ earthly life and ministry deepen my own faith and also equip me to share the Good News with others.
Amen.
