COUNSELLOR

 

JOB TITLE:                  Counsellor
REPORT TO:                Counselling Manager
SALARY:                     Commensurate with experience(part time position with the possibility of full time employment as the need arises)

Job Summary:

To provide professional face to face, telephone and email counselling and assist with administrative duties delegated by Counselling Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registered Counsellor/Lay Counsellor. Minimum honours degree with prior counselling experience. (at least 1 to 2 years’ experience)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Face to Face Counselling
  • Provide face to face counselling to children, individuals and couples.
  • Knowledgeable about play therapy techniques and counselling practices.
  • Maintain good record keeping and ethical standards as per HPCSA guidelines.
  • Counselling Emails:
  • Respond to counselling emails received locally and from our international offices.
  • Assist with training of interns and volunteers who respond to the counselling emails.
  • Adhere to ethical practises where necessary.
  • Ensure responses are appropriate and standard is in accordance with Focus on the Family values and principles.
  • Assist with Administrative duties delegated by Counselling Manager.
  • Telephone Counselling
  • Provide telephonic counselling.
  • Ensure ethical practises are maintained and implemented when necessary.
  • Ensure responses are appropriate and standard is in accordance with Focus on the Family values and principles.
  • Referrals
  • Refer to Christian counsellors in other parts of South Africa using the Focus on the Family Christian Counsellors’ referral database.
  • Other
  • Build good relationships within Counselling Team.
  • Attend supervision sessions.
  • Ensure ethical practises are maintained and implemented in the Counselling Ministry when and as necessary.
  • Ensure client information and files are protected and that confidentiality in the Counselling Ministry is maintained.

  • Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ; maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of Focus; adheres to the Standard of Moral Conduct and Statement of Faith; upholds Focus on the Family’s ministry in prayer
